I went to Jusco Bukit Tinggi, Klang on Monday to watch Ip Man 2. The hype was on this show and Iron Man 2 and my friends are really into it.
For me, this don't bring much excitement to me as I am not a fan of Chinese Martial Arts movie, especially if it is more like a tale of a real historical figure. We reach there quite late after dinner but just in time to see the beginning.
The story was set in Hong Kong this time around after the Japanese invasion and Ip Man was to open a training ground to get students as he need money for rental and living. Then there was Master Hung who tried to stop him from opening citing rules and fees. Ip Man did not obey and let to some hurdle in his business. Eventually he gained Hung's respect when he bring Hung to light that family is more important than winning.
That was the first part before the story gone hollow. The plot after that was a bit messy but we got to see some fighting with nice effects. Hung was killed in the ring by Twister before Ip Man got to avenge his death. There are some bloody corruption and backstabbing too.
Overall, I think it is a great movie although it is not my kind of movie. And by watching this, I may try to find its first installment which I had not have the mood to watch. Bottom line, it is a very good movie.
I don't think it will have a third installment of the franchise as Ip Man's famous disciple, Bruce Lee had somewhat appeared in the end and a short note on what happened after that.
